Labor Day weekend is upon us, and for many of us that means some sort of adventure, event or gathering to celebrate the last “hurrah” of summer. Whether going away for one last summer trip or planning that last summer barbecue, you probably have a check list of things to bring along so you can fully enjoy yourself. So, remember…Don’t forget to pack your plan!

One of the best ways to enjoy your food and fun is to plan ahead for your success:

BE CLEAR ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL TUESDAY AND HOW YOU ARE GOING TO GET THERE!


4 Steps to enjoying a successful Labor Day Holiday

Ask Yourself:
1. What do you want to happen (in regards to your weight and activity) while you enjoy this time away from the usual routine of your day?  Just as you will pack a bathing suit to go swimming, understand what is most important to you and plan to make that happen.

2. What do you need to do to make that happen?  Take a healthy addition to the barbecue, pack healthy snacks, plan extra activity–you decide the approach you want to take to make your plan work for you.

3. Can you do those things needed to make your dreams reality?  Assess the reality of your ability to make these plans work for you.

4. WILL you do those things needed?  And, finally, honestly assess the reality of whether or not you will actually follow through with your plans.  If the answer is “probably not”, scale back to where the answer is “pretty good chance”.  And then brainstorm a way to tip the scales (pun intended) in your favor–ask someone else to be your exercise partner, accountability partner or partner-in-crime (if they have the same goals as you).
