Beware of hidden sugars!
Many of us are consuming additional sugar during the holiday season, whether through sweets, wine, or special holiday cocktails. Which means we want to be especially aware of hidden sugars we may be consuming every day. Take a look at ingredient labels and look for words like fructose, sucrose, dextrose, glucose or lactose, which are all forms of sugar (ok, almost anything that ends -ose). You’ll be surprised where you’ll find these hidden sugars (pasta sauce, really?) and how easily you can substitute healthier versions or homemade versions when you know what to look for.
